Transparency International Pakistan organized a Capacity Building Workshop on the Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act 2016 for community members in the district of Shaheed Benazirabad. During the workshop, a large number of community members, including women and people with disabilities, participated. At the event, Saad Alam Angaria, Assistant Project Coordinator of Transparency International Pakistan, highlighted the importance of the right to information and explained the key features of the Act. He emphasized that by using the right to information as outlined in Article 19-A of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, citizens can contribute to informed decision-making and promote transparency and accountability in matters of public interest. He further stated that it is essential for women and people with disabilities to exercise their right to information and foster social accountability in institutions for their rights. They can obtain information from relevant departments and use this information to highlight key issues to prevent violations of their rights.Tariq Hussain Channar, Project Manager of NDF, in his speech, said that information plays a key role in decision-making. He explained that this is a way through which the public can contribute to the development of transparent institutions. He also mentioned that there is very little awareness about the Right to Information laws. He urged community members to play their part in promoting accountability and encouraged fellow participants to contribute to good governance practices.Later, participant Asma shared her experience and highlighted the challenges faced by people with disabilities in having their voices heard. She stated that by using the Right to Information, Persons with Disabilities (PWD) can access crucial information related to government services concerning their rights and contribute to reflecting their voices in policies.Participants were also engaged in an activity to write Right to Information applications, during which they raised various issues and expressed their intention to seek answers from public institutions.
Karachi: Abid Lashari, a dedicated disability rights activist and President of the National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan, departed for Madina with his family to perform Umrah for the first time. The family boarded their flight from Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, filled with excitement and gratitude for this spiritual journey. Lashari, who has been a tireless advocate for the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities across Sindh and Pakistan, expressed deep joy and anticipation as he embarked on this sacred pilgrimage. “This is a very special moment for me and my family,” Lashari shared before his departure. “I am grateful for the opportunity to perform Umrah and pray for the well-being of my community and continued progress for persons with disabilities.” The NDF team and community members including Tariq Hussain Channar, Mustafa Zaur, Manthar Ali Magsi, Haseeb Kiyani, Faisal Malik, Asma Munir, Ali Raza Abro, Jumo Khan Jamali, Dilmurad Mari, Nisar Dinari, Asadullah Channar, Rafaqat Arain, Aisha Ghani Waghan. Muhammad Khan Jamali, Rozina Khatti, Ali Asghar Lashari, Sheeraz Saleem, Neelam Rajput, Salman laghari, Ashraf Soomro, Robin Biyasi, Mazhar Abro and others extended their heartfelt prayers and best wishes for a safe and fulfilling journey. Lashari’s unwavering commitment to social change and empowerment remains an inspiration, and this spiritual experience is sure to strengthen his resolve to continue his impactful work.
Sujawal: In an effort to promote the development of coastal areas and improve the welfare of fishermen in Pakistan, the National Development and Development Forum (NDF) organized a training workshop on boat engine operation and maintenance in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This workshop aimed to provide fishermen with essential knowledge on engine repair, maintenance, and operation.During the training, participants were given detailed information about engine repairs, solutions to various technical issues, and general maintenance practices. The training not only included theoretical knowledge but also offered practical lessons in boat engine repair and maintenance skills. The goal of the training was to increase the fishermen’s self-reliance in their daily activities and equip them with modern technical skills to enhance their performance. This collaboration between NDF and IUCN represents a significant step in improving the economic conditions of fishermen in Sujawal’s coastal areas and enhancing their professional capabilities.
Karachi: Chairman Duaba Foundation, Mr. Liaqat Ali, visited the DEPD-PDSA Rehabilitation Center in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Karachi, to observe the free rehabilitation services provided for children with intellectual disabilities, particularly Down Syndrome. Mr. Abid Lashari, CEO of the Pakistan Down Syndrome Association (PDSA), briefed him on the collaborative efforts between PDSA and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh, in delivering essential rehabilitation services. Mr. Liaqat Ali, who is also a Board Member of Indus Consortium, emphasized the urgent need to expand such facilities to all district headquarters across Pakistan. He highlighted that Pakistan has a 9.64% disability ratio, which is a significant concern. He stressed that preventive measures such as discouraging cousin marriages, child marriages, and malnutrition, along with addressing causes like road accidents, can help reduce the prevalence of disabilities. Mr. Jamshed Fareed, Board Member of Ready Pakistan and Star Network, commended the efforts of PDSA and the National Disability & Development Forum (NDF), calling them role models in the field of rehabilitation. He also praised the serious commitment of the DEPD Department, Government of Sindh, and urged other provinces to replicate these good practices to ensure better rehabilitation opportunities for children with disabilities. Additionally, Hussain Jarwar, CEO of Indus Consortium, along with other member organizations, expressed appreciation for the impactful initiatives undertaken by NDF and PDSA in Sindh. The visit reaffirmed the importance of accessible rehabilitation services and the need for nationwide initiatives to mainstream children with disabilities and improve their quality of life.

KARACHI: Hussain Jarwar, CEO of Indus Consortium, Islamabad visited the NDF Rehabilitation Center in Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi, where he was briefed by Abid Lashari, President of NDF Pakistan, about the center’s free rehabilitation services for children with intellectual disabilities. These services, including physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, and remedial therapy, are provided in collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh. During the visit, Mr. Hussain Jarwar commended NDF Pakistan for its dedicated efforts in supporting children with Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy (CP), and other disabilities in both urban in Gulistan e Johar and rural areas even in Nawabshah and larkana respectively in Sindh. He emphasized the need for international organizations, corporate entities, and individual philanthropists to contribute to this noble cause, ensuring the sustainability and expansion of these essential services. Recognizing NDF Pakistan as an active member of the Indus Consortium, Mr. Jarwar assured his full support, including potential technical assistance, to further strengthen NDF’s initiatives. In response, Abid Lashari expressed gratitude to Mr. Jarwar and his team for their continued encouragement. He also acknowledged the significant contributions of the Department of Empowerment of persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh, and stressed the importance of corporate sector support in Karachi for enhancing rehabilitation services. Karachi: Prominent women activist Samina Nazir, Executive Director of PODA Pakistan, visited the NDF Rehabilitation Center in Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi. She was warmly received by Mr. Abid Lashari, President of NDF Pakistan, who briefed her on the ongoing rehabilitation services for children with disabilities, being provided in close collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh. During her visit, Samina Nazir interacted with children and parents attending rehabilitation sessions. She expressed her appreciation for the center’s impactful work, calling it a “center of excellence and a blessing” for deserving children with disabilities in Karachi. Inspired by the initiative, she expressed her wish to establish a similar rehabilitation unit in Chakwal to provide free services for children with intellectual disabilities in Chakwal and Jhelum. She also sought NDF Pakistan’s collaboration with PODA Pakistan to launch a rehabilitation program in Punjab, in response, Mr. Abid Lashari offered his technical expertise and support to help set up rehabilitation services in Chakwal, ensuring benefits for the local community. This collaboration marks a significant step toward expanding rehabilitation services for children with disabilities across Pakistan.

Matiari: National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan actively participated in the 1st Agro Livestock and Handicrafts Expo 2025, held in Matiari, to promote its initiatives for persons with disabilities. Deputy Commissioner Matiari, Muhammad Yousif Shaikh, highlighted the significance of such expos as a vital platform for vendors to showcase their products and services. Commissioner Hyderabad Bilal Ahmed Memon, District & Sessions Judge Matiari, Dr. Altaf Hussain Sial (Vice Chancellor, Agriculture University Tando Jam), Faisal Bashir Memon (SSP Matiari), and other dignitaries visited the event, appreciating the efforts of local growers and livestock breeders in strengthening the district’s economy. NDF Pakistan set up a dedicated stall to disseminate information on disability certificates, CNICs for persons with disabilities, and essential rehabilitation services. The organization showcased its work in physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, and remedial therapy, which play a crucial role in the inclusion of persons with disabilities in Sindh. In recognition of NDF Pakistan’s efforts, Mr. Abid Lashari, President of NDF Pakistan, was honored with an honorary shield for his outstanding services in rehabilitating children with intellectual disabilities in Sindh.
