To Ensure Political Participation of Persons with Disabilities in Local Government
Persons with Disabilities are excluded from the mainstream political system because of their vulnerability and social exclusion with less access to resources. Sindh Assembly has passed the Local Government Act 2021, 1% of seats have been allocated for the persons with disabilities but still need to make aware both segments to be part of local government through advocacy for CNICs issuance, Voter Registration & lobbying with political parties, to make them included in local politics.
PROJECT GOALS
1. To enhance capacity of Persons with disabilities (PWDs) on Local Government (LG) system in
Sindh, laws and regulations that protect their fundamental rights.
2. To increase the voter turnover of Persons with disabilities by facilitating them to get their
CNICs from NADRA.
3. Creating space for target group in the political system and advancing and protecting the rights
of persons with disabilities through lobbying and advocacy meetings and consultations with key
stakeholders like political parties, Local Government officials & concerned quarters.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
# of Persons with Disabilities & Transgender enhanced their knowledge on Local Government System, to access 01% quota of reserved seats as General Counselors.
# of Persons with Disabilities & Transgender enhanced their knowledge on procedure of issuance of Disability Certificate & CNICs.
# of Persons with Disabilities & Transgender engaged with political parties to be part of local political system.
PROJECT DELIVERABLES
# of Project Orientation Sessions conducted with staff.
# of Capacity building sessions on political sphere with 30 Persons with disabilities and Transgender were organized.
# of Capacity sharing exercises on Laws on Disability & Transgender conducted.
# of Dialogues on issues & solutions of Persons with Disabilities and Transgender community organized.
# of Day long sessions on issuance of CNICs & the related benefits were organized.
# of Consultative Workshops with the local government department officials were conducted.
# of Project Closing Ceremony by sharing experience of the project was organized.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Outcome-1
The capacity of Persons with disabilities developed & Trans on LG systems/functions, Sindh
Empowerment of Persons with disability Act. Trans Act and fundamental rights.
Outcome-2
Enabled Persons with disabilities & Trans to get their CNICs and required certificates take part in
political process.
Outcome-3
Created space in the political system for Persons with disabilities & Transgender through
lobbying and advocacy meetings with the key stakeholders and sensitization of political party
office bearers.
Outcome-4
1000 IEC material (Pamphlets) are disseminated to create public awareness on political
participation of persons with disabilities & Trans, Disability Certificate & CNIC procedure with
Benefits of both documents for individual with disability.
