Disability is Not an Issue, But a Different Lifestyle – DC Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad, Mr. Zain ul Abedin Memon, stated that “Disability is not an issue but a different lifestyle,” while meeting with Mr. Abid Lashari, President of National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan.
During the meeting, Mr. Lashari briefed the Deputy Commissioner about various ongoing initiatives of NDF in Hyderabad, particularly the DEPD-NDF Rehabilitation Center in Qasimabad, which is a joint initiative supported by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh. The center provides free rehabilitation services for children with disabilities, including physiotherapy, speech therapy, and psychotherapy.
Mr. Lashari also shared details about the Immunization Project funded by GAVI Alliance, currently being implemented by NDF. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated NDF’s dedicated efforts and assured all possible support from the district administration. He emphasized that “Demand generation for immunization is the need of the hour, and the role of social mobilization, as demonstrated by NDF, is commendable.”
Later, Mr. Abid Lashari met with Pir Ghulam Hussain, District Health Officer (DHO) Hyderabad, to discuss the goals and implementation plan for the GAVI-funded immunization project, focusing on Union Councils Masu Bhurgari and Husri in Tehsil Hyderabad Rural. The DHO appreciated NDF’s commitment and encouraged its involvement in these areas to help raise awareness, generate community demand, and ensure acceptance of routine immunization and polio drops.
NDF Pakistan remains committed to improving health outcomes and mainstreaming persons with disabilities through inclusive and community-driven efforts. During meeting Mr. Tariq Hussain Channar Program Manager NDF and renowned Journalist Amin Diplai was also accompanied.
