Keti Bunder: The National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan, in collaboration with IUCN International, organized an exposure visit to Keti Bunder for the fisherfolk of Taluka Jati under the project “Alternative Livelihood Opportunities for Fishermen.” The visit was hosted by the social organization SRDS Sindh, which warmly welcomed the visiting fisherfolk from Jati.
The purpose of this visit was to strengthen linkages among coastal fishing communities, promote exchange of experiences, explore sustainable livelihood opportunities, and provide practical learning for economic improvement.
During the visit, the fisherfolk from Jati met with their counterparts in Keti Bunder, exchanged experiences and innovative fishing practices, and gained detailed awareness about new livelihood options and income diversification. Training sessions were also held for the participants to help them understand how to reduce dependency on middlemen and enhance their income and standard of living.
On the occasion, Mr. Abid Lashari, President of NDF Pakistan, said that with the support of IUCN International, we are here in Keti Bunder with the fisherfolk from Jati. The purpose of this mutual visit was to enable both communities to share their experiences and ideas so that they can improve their economic conditions. Such programs empower fisherfolk towards self-reliance and economic independence, helping them become part of Pakistan’s mainstream development.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Tariq Hussain Channar, Program Manager of NDF Pakistan, remarked that the said visit is not just about exposure, but a purpose of learning and exchange. When fishermen from different coastal regions come together and exchange their experiences, it leads to economic improvement. NDF Pakistan firmly believes in community training, capacity building, and the creation of alternative livelihood opportunities. We are grateful to IUCN International for their valuable cooperation in this initiative.”
At the conclusion of the visit, participants expressed their gratitude to NDF Pakistan, SRDS Sindh, and IUCN International, saying that such programs foster awareness, solidarity, and self-confidence among fishing communities—key elements for sustainable development. The SRDS team, including Qadir Bux Otho, Yaqoob Otho, and others, also played a vital role in the success of the visit.
