NDF Pakistan Signs MOU with IUCN International to Foster Resilience in Coastal Areas of Jati, Sujawal

Karachi: The National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) have entered into a strategic partnership to address the growing challenges faced by the coastal communities of Jati, Sujawal.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Mr. Abid Lashari, President of NDF, and Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema, Country Head of IUCN Pakistan, at a formal ceremony. This collaboration aims to create sustainable resilience among the vulnerable fisherfolk community in the Jati region, who are disproportionately affected by climate change, environmental degradation, and natural disasters.

The agreement outlines joint initiatives focused on sustainable livelihoods, environmental conservation, and capacity building for the local population. The partnership will leverage NDF’s on-ground expertise in community development and IUCN’s global experience in environmental sustainability to enhance adaptive capacities.

By promoting ecosystem-based approaches and sustainable resource management, the project will contribute to improving the socio-economic conditions of the fisherfolk community while preserving the natural environment. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abid Lashari said, This MOU marks a significant step towards addressing the critical challenges faced by the coastal communities. By working together with IUCN, we aim to build resilience and ensure a better future for the fisherfolk of Jati.”

Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema added, “IUCN is committed to supporting the sustainable development of Pakistan’s coastal areas. Our collaboration with NDF will help create lasting solutions to the environmental and socio-economic challenges in the region.” The partnership will initially focus on capacity-building programs, eco-friendly livelihood opportunities, and awareness campaigns to equip the local population with the knowledge and tools to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
