Karachi: Mr. Dadlo Zuhrani, Project Director of the Solid Waste Emergency & Efficiency Project (SWEEP), Government of Sindh, visited the training sessions of the National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) project titled Livelihood Resource Plan (LRP).
The initiative, aimed at mobilizing and training waste pickers from the Jam Chakro landfill site in District West Karachi, is funded by SWEEP, the Government of Sindh, and the World Bank.
During the visit to the Vocational Training Institute (VTI) in Hyderi, North Nazimabad, Mr. Abid Lashari, President of NDF, briefed the delegation on the project’s progress. He engaged with trainees and trainers to assess the training facilities and effectiveness of the program.
Mr. Zuhrani appreciated NDF’s efforts in integrating waste pickers into mainstream society by equipping them with alternative livelihood skills, enabling them to transition from waste picking to dignified employment and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Lashari reaffirmed NDF’s commitment to empowering waste pickers, transforming them into productive members of society through sustainable business opportunities. He emphasized the vision of helping them establish independent livelihoods, reducing dependency on waste picking, and promoting skilled labor participation in the market.

Accompanying the visit were Mr. Ahmed Ali Soomro, Deputy Project Director SWEEP, Mr. Nawaz Janwari from SWEEP, Mr. Ab Waheed Arbab, Deputy Project Lead NDF, and Mr. Hamid Ali Ansari, Principal of VTI Hyderi.
This initiative highlights the collaborative efforts of NDF, SWEEP, and international stakeholders in fostering economic empowerment and social inclusion for marginalized communities especially waste pickers at landfill site jam Chackro, District West karachi. .
