Karachi: Mr. Saad Edhi, Director of Edhi Foundation, visited the Pakistan Down Syndrome Association (PDSA) Rehabilitation Center located in Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi. During the visit, Mr. Haji Abid Lashari, CEO of PDSA, briefed him on the range of services provided to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the center, established in collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh.
Mr. Lashari highlighted that the center offers free life therapies—including physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and remedial education—to all children without any discrimination. These services aim to support the holistic development and mainstreaming of children with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities.
Mr. Saad Edhi appreciated the initiative and acknowledged the importance of such rehabilitation services, stating, “These services are a vital need for children with disabilities. While the rehabilitation process is long-term, its impact is life-changing.” He further encouraged parents to actively seek support and bring their children to benefit from this collaborative effort between PDSA and DEPD Sindh.
The visit reaffirmed the importance of joint efforts between civil society and the government to uplift the lives of children with disabilities and ensure inclusive development across Pakistan.
