Turning Disability into OpportunityInspiring Journey of Abid Lashari

Hyderabad: Mr. Abid Lashari, President of the National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan, stands today as a symbol of courage, determination, and hope. Despite losing both of his hands in a fire accident at the age of two, he transformed his disability into an opportunity to serve humanity and empower persons with disabilities across Pakistan.

Born and raised in Nawabshah, Mr. Lashari faced immense challenges during his childhood. His parents, especially his mother, played a vital role in his treatment, education, and rehabilitation. Through her constant care and encouragement, he learned to live independently. A significant turning point came when his teacher, Haji Muhammad Bachal Bughio, patiently taught him how to hold a pen and write, enabling him to continue his education.

Overcoming all odds, Mr. Lashari completed his Master’s degree in Sociology and founded the National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) from Nawabshah. What began as a small local initiative has now grown into a nationally and internationally recognized organization working for the rights and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities across Sindh.

Under his leadership, NDF Pakistan operates multiple rehabilitation centers providing free services such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, and remedial education to hundreds of children with intellectual and physical disabilities with collaboration of DEPD Department Government of Sindh.

In recognition of his remarkable contributions to disability inclusion and social development, Mr. Abid Lashari was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honors.

Mr. Lashari’s life is an inspiration for all—proving that disability is not a limitation but a new possibility. Through his determination, family support, and vision, he has turned personal tragedy into a lifelong mission of empowerment and inclusion.
