The National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) held a strategic meeting with Iltizam Relief Society at their office in Shah Alam, Malaysia, to discuss collaborative efforts in addressing critical humanitarian needs in Sindh, Pakistan.
The meeting highlighted initiatives such as the provision of shelters, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects, installation of hand pumps, food support, Ramadan food distribution, Zabiha projects, green energy solutions, and the rehabilitation of children with intellectual disabilities, particularly children with Down Syndrome in Nawabshah and Sanghar.
Mr. Muhammad Shah, Chief Executive of Iltizam Relief Society, reaffirmed his organization’s dedication to supporting flood-prone districts of Sindh, especially those severely affected by the devastating 2022 floods. He emphasized Iltizam Relief’s ongoing commitment to alleviating the suffering of vulnerable communities.
Mr. Abid Lashari, President of NDF and CEO of Pakistan Down Syndrome Association (PDSA), provided an update on the current situation in Nawabshah, detailing the ongoing relief activities carried out in collaboration with iltizam Relief Society.
He underscored the pressing need for focused efforts on the empowerment and rehabilitation of children with Down Syndrome. Additionally, Mr. Lashari proposed the expansion of Iltizam Relief’s operations to other disaster-prone districts, including Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, and Sujawal. Mr. Shah welcomed the suggestion and expressed a willingness to explore these opportunities.
Mr. Tariq Hussain Channar, Program Manager of PDSA, called for closer collaboration between Iltizam Relief Society and Pakistan Down Syndrome Association. He stressed the importance of joining hands to support the rehabilitation of children with Down Syndrome in Karachi and other underserved areas of Sindh, particularly in Sanghar.
This partnership aims to address the immediate needs of affected communities while ensuring the inclusion and empowerment of children with intellectual disabilities. The collaboration between NDF and Iltizam Relief Society demonstrates a shared commitment to sustainable development and humanitarian aid in Sindh.
